Greetham six church bells are available to view again today before the bell frame is taken down for work next week.
The bells returned into service after 100 years of silence back in 1923 and were restored as the village War Memorial and as a result have inscriptions on them. The project has seen fundraising in the village as well as from local organisations. As a churchwarden, Jackie Gauntley explains.
‘We started just over a year ago and we've raised money through holding events ourselves such as cèilidh, a concert, a plant sale and various ways of raising money ourselves, but we've also had grants from various bodies, including the War Memorial Trust. Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust have been very generous to us and also the Peterborough Diocese Bellringers Guild. So we're very grateful for everybody that supported us. There's no way a village of this size could have raised the nearly £60,000 that we've needed to be able to carry out this work, so we are very grateful'.
