The funeral of one of Rutland's last D-Day veterans takes place today.
Dennis Wright lived to 101. He was hoped to be guest of honour at the 80th anniversary commemoration of D-Day in Uppingham, but he wasn't well enough to attend. He spent his last few years in the town, having previously been a long term resident of Caldecott. A guard of honour will form outside a mystery house in Uppingham before his funeral and a service to celebrate his life at Uppingham Parish Church. Dennis received France's highest military recognition, the Legion D'honneur for his service in the Army in the Second World War at Normandy.
