A campaign has been launched to save Ryhall Library
days before Rutland County Council's cabinet is set to make a decision over its future. The library was packed with villagers yesterday after news broke that the planned changes into a community hub could be shelved over concerns the building could cost 3 or 4 times more to transform than originally thought. Instead, it's recommended by officers as a new way of delivering library services be explored. Villagers in Ryhall are accusing the council of jumping the gun and not keeping locals informed. Charlotte Davis is one of the campaigners who also helps run services there.
‘So I help with the open afternoons and warm welcome and we had been told for a while now we're going to get new wall this and that's going to be amazing community space and all of a sudden we're being told no, it's too much money, the whole place needs renovating, it is too expensive and the rugs were pulled out from under our feet. It is really heartwarming actually to see so many people come out and support this in less than 24 hours of finding out. We've had a room full of people that are quite rightly frustrated and angry that there's been no consultation, no questions able to be asked and so we've had no answers. We just being told that on Tuesday we could be hearing that the library could close and I just simply don’t know what to do with that information. So we're all here to try and do something’.
