POP-UP RADIO ACROSS RUTLAND AND STAMFORD

We have been out and about this summer staging a series of pop-up radio events on weekday mornings. We have taken pop-up radio to a wide range of locations, including Caldecott, Uppingham, Empingham, South Luffenham, Stretton, Market Overton and Baston, as well as visiting Birch Tree cafe in Easton on the Hill, the Mindspace Garden in Stamford, and joining with Citizens Advice Rutland in Oakham as part of National Volunteers' Week.

The pop-up radio events ran for three months, during May, June and July. We were pleased to see lots of people come along to say hello, and to be able to work with partners such as Mindspace and Citizens Advice Rutland, helping them to raise awareness of the valuable services which they provide.

Station Manager, Rob Persani, explained the thinking behind the new initiative: “Being at the heart of the local community is what we are all about. While many people are used to seeing us at events across the local area, this summer’s pop-up radio was an opportunity for us to take community radio to new places, including some of the more isolated villages in the local region. As well as using the pop-up radio events to help people learn about their community radio station, it was great to work with local organisations who have important messages to share on services available to help with matters such as mental wellbeing and cost of living pressures. Pop-up radio was a new venture for us, and we are grateful to the National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Community Grant Programme for their financial support. It was also wonderful to see new volunteers coming on board and playing a big part in making it all happen.”

Alongside the weekday pop-up radio, we have also been at plenty of weekend events over the summer, from Braunston to Market Deeping and from Collyweston to Ashwell. While the weekday pop-up radio has now finished for this summer, you will still continue to see us at plenty of events across the area.
