Known throughout Europe for wool,cloth and pottery Stamford was one of medieval England's great river ports-a classic walled town lying astride the country's most important highway.But as it began to fade a dynamic dynasty arrived with one of England's greatest statesmen.
Cecil was critical to Queen Elisabeth's
survival.
