The 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden is being marked in the Stamford area today, with an historic 75 mile cycle ride and a service at Stamford School.
It's focused on the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, who supported the Army, RAF and American Air Force in a plan to seize key bridges in the Netherlands during the Second World War.
The majority of Polish parachutists were deployed on this day 80 years ago. The ride covers Tinwell Church, Easton on the Hill, Stamford School, where members of the medical company were based, the parachutists headquarters at Rock House, as well as RAF Saltby, RAF Spanhoe, Blatherwycke, RAF Kingscliffe and Wansford.
