The Frank Newbon outdoor gym has re-opened
after Stamford Town Council took over responsibility for it. That gym is now open seven days a week on Stamford Recreation Ground. It was originally a community project crowd funded by the local community, which was forced to close last year over an injury claim. Yesterday it re-opened in time for the Easter weekend and will be open 24 hours a day seven days a week as long as users respect the facility. Mayor of Stamford Councillor Amanda Wheeler cut the ribbon.
‘Yeah and I'm so delighted with that. It's a really positive outcome. I really appreciate Frank Newbon and all the funding that they did to get their gym opened up in the first place and we've worked really closely with them from the start because obviously the gym is on our land and we wanted to support them and this is just an exciting development. The gym is now going to be open 24/7 and we just hope that members of the public will be able to enjoy it without any vandalism or any anti-social incidents that would cause it to close again because it has been closed for such a long time and we really want to keep it open. It's a great space for the community to enjoy’.
