Annual Battle of Britain Parade and Service

Road closures are in place in Stamford this morning on Broad Street, Star Lane and Red Lion Street for the annual Battle of Britain Parade and Service and will continue until lunchtime.

If you'd like to attend, you're asked to arrive for 10:45. A service and wreath-laying ceremony will start just after 11, led by the mayor, Councillor Jane Kingman, and a flypast is planned for nearer midday. The parade features personnel from RAF Wittering, Cadets, members of the Royal British Legion and Stamford Brass.

Meanwhile, in Somerby, the anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem is being remembered with a tribute to the 10th Battalion Regiment. Nearly a hundred of the 582 paratroopers who parachuted 60 miles behind enemy lines were killed in the battle. 404 were taken prisoner by the Germans, and 86 were evacuated.
