Ahead of GCSE results coming out tomorrow the mother of a school leaver in Ryhall is accusing Rutland County Council of failing those in the east of the county
from that year group, who want to go to Melton to pursue a course other than traditional A levels. Nikki Younger says after she applied for a bus pass for her son to Brooksby Agricultural College in the spring. She's been told the R-29 service, which also serve Melton Vale and picked up across Rutland, has been withdrawn, claiming that the college and Centre Bus, the operator, have only recently found out about the cut despite the decision seeming to have been made in May. It's thought around 100 students are affected by it. Nikki says the alternative of four separate buses would be impossible.
‘Once again, the east of the county was sort of forgotten really. And that's very much how it feels sometimes in Ryhall and other parts. I'm sure Essendine and Great Casterton and all the other villages round here, Belmesthorpe, probably feel the same’.
