From bats to bees. Yesterday's Advent Fair raised money for the latest project for Braunston in Rutland's church.
All Saints, which dates from the 12th century, hit the national headlines when it helped lead a nationwide bat conservation project, but now needs thousands of pounds spending on it to relocate the insects which have taken up residence in the walls. Churchwarden Rob Anderson says they need to help the bees find a new home.
‘We have a problem at the moment with a number of bee colonies in the walls of the church, which we're going to have to relocate and that means we're going to have to lift parts of the lead roof and actually relocate the bees out of the cavities in the wall. It means scaffolding and all sorts of masonry work and so unfortunately it is going to be quite expensive, probably about £30 or £40,000 worth of actual work plus all the approvals etc’
