A man from Bourne has been sentenced to over seven years in prison after he caused the death of a driver in a crash near Toft.
30 year old Kane Clears from Water Lane was driving at 90 miles an hour in a 40 and was believed to be twice the drink drive limit. On Friday night, the 21st of July, 2023, he was on the wrong side of the road as he tried to go round a bend and hit two cars.
He struck a Ford Focus head on and killed the driver, 59 year old Ian Gooden, and the occupants of a BMW that also was hit, were injured. Police also found one of Mr Clears' tyres was so worn the cords were exposed. They say although it didn't contribute to the crash, they say it demonstrates his utter disregard for other road users by failing to keep his vehicle roadworthy.
Mr Clears was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison, banned from driving for 10 years and a month, and must take an extended retest.
