Lincolnshire County Council is encouraging residents to think more about using public transport for journeys.
September is their annual Catch the Bus month campaign. This year they're also marking 25 years of Call Connect, Lincolnshire's demand-responsive transport service. The first full Call Connect bus took to the roads back in 2001 in Horncastle and Spilsby.
The service now connects 931 villages and towns across Lincolnshire, including Stamford, Bourne, Deepings and surrounds, making it one of the largest, longest-standing and most successful demand-responsive bus services in the country. Today Call Connect operates seven fixed routes alongside its demand-responsive services, helping people travel to work, education, healthcare, shops, and other essential destinations.
They introduced an app in 2023 alongside the telephone booking service, making it easier for passengers to plan and book journeys. The scheme has also inspired Rutland's on-demand public transport, which is now in its second year.
