Rutland & Stamford Sound, the local radio station, has been shortlisted for two national awards for the impact it makes in the local community.
The Community Radio Awards, sponsored by Aiir and organised by the UK Community Radio Network, celebrate community radio and all the hard work and time that the volunteers involved put into their stations, shows and communities.
Rutland & Stamford Sound is down to the final five stations in both Celebrating & Championing Community Radio of the Year and Digital Content of the Year.
There are over 300 community radio stations across the country.
The first category nomination focuses on its fifth birthday celebrations, where the team boarded a Blands bus and travelled from Oakham Market Place, to Uppingham Parish Church, Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Birch Tree Café at Easton on the Hill and Burghley House.
They broadcast live throughout the day with several community groups taking part, highlighting the station’s integral position in championing local organisations and locations.
They also made the shortlist of ‘Digital Content Of The Year’ for their daily social media and website content which includes videos and written journalism and sharing of local news, travel and events.
Station Manager Rob Persani said: “To have made the top 5 out of over 300 community radio stations across the country in two categories which both show how valued we are locally is just fantastic!
At 5 years old this year, it does seem like we have come of age, and I can't thank all our volunteers and supporters enough for their contribution.”
The awards, which are judged by leading figures from the radio industry, academics and voluntary organisations will be presented at an evening in Birmingham on 24th October after a conference on Community Radio.
Each category is expected to have a bronze, silver and gold awarded from the five in the shortlist.
Chair of the Awards, Rebecca Steers, said: "The standard of entries continues to demonstrate the incredible talent, commitment and innovation found throughout community radio.
Receiving a nomination is something that every station, volunteer and presenter should be proud of. It is recognition from peers across the sector and a testament to the hard work that goes into serving local communities day in and day out.
