Local rugby legend, an inspirational leader of a leading sporting rehabilitation facility, Matt Hampson OBE, will turn on Uppingham's Christmas lights
this evening at 5:30pm. Hambo, who's also revealed he's taking part in the London Marathon next April, will be in the marketplace with Rutland High Sheriff, the primary school singing and Rutland and Stamford Sound. Additional parking is also available at Uppingham Gate and the town's council operated car parks are free to park in from 3:00pm. Paul and Ingrid from the committee who organise Uppingham's late night shopping say it brings the Uppingham community and wider community together.
‘It does, it's great, it's very much a community event. Organised by volunteers from the town for people in the town and surrounding villages and it's a great family event in the town and everyone looks forward to it. Yes, we've got all sorts of different stalls. We have got craft stalls in the Town Hall and the church is full of all different stalls and we've got the carousel, we've got Rutland Morris, we've got the reindeers, of course, down Crown Passage. It is supported really, really well with all the locals and local businesses’.
