A musical telling the true story of passengers stranded in a small town in Newfoundland due to the 9/11 terror attacks
of 24 years ago opens at Stamford Corn Exchange tonight. Stamford Showstoppers are the first amateur group in the area to get the rights to Come From Away, an award-winning musical which is being performed from tonight until Saturday where their matinee is signed for the first time. The cast says it is about how different people come together.
'Hundreds of planes have to get diverted and there are 38 diverted to Newfoundland Gander. It's come out the story of all these different people. They overcome their prejudices. They meet new people that they wouldn't necessarily spend time with. They experience new things. So yes, lots of really interesting stories in there. It is the story of not only the people on the plane, but also the citizens of Gander, the town of Gander, who have to cope with this influx of people. It sort of doubles the population of the town overnight. It's all original songs apart from the little cameo from Celine Dion's starring moment in there. But it's all very folky, very Irish Connor jig kind of music. That's really exciting. Really high tempo kind of stuff going on’.
