Nene Valley Railway is partnering with one of the country's biggest engineering infrastructure companies to refurbish a carriage to carry electricity along the line.
They are working with Amey to celebrate 200 years of the railway and help convert a carriage to house a generator. It's called Project Octopussy after the historic railway's role in the Bond film. Commercial manager Chris O’Regan says it'll revolutionise what they can do.
‘Yeah, provide power for our carriages in a way that we don't have today. At the moment, we have electricity on our trains. We have generators and batteries underneath the carriages and that really limits what you can do and how long you can do it for. What this does is it means like events such as Christmas can have a lot more electricity involved, it opens up a lot of options as to what you can do. It opens the options for different events that we can do on the train. Performances, music, all kinds of entertainment to really bring the history of the place to life while also tipping into some of the modern things that people enjoy doing at railways’.
