The new Rutland Hub next to Oakham Baptist Church is only part of their expansion. It was officially opened yesterday by MP Alicia Kearns and sees offices from the church move in as well as spaces for the community to use and a cafe.
The actual church building will be next to see work to accommodate a growing membership. Reverend Tom Bowring says it's part of their continued development.
"It's part of the same vision still. Rather than extending out the back and building the cafe on the back, this came up for sale. I chatted to the previous owners who were here and said, Hey, this would be great for all that we are seeking to do.
It gives us another space, an additional space. We're still going to want to hollow out pretty much the inside of the church to make a larger space. So we've got a larger conference space, a bigger space for things like our toddler groups, but particularly for Sunday, we're full when we worship at the moment over various different places where we meet.
So that's still very much on the cards. That will be phase three. We're currently in the middle of phase two."
