The new mayor of Stamford says she's hoping to support as much of the community as possible in her year in office.
Last night the official inauguration took place at the Town Hall with representatives from community groups across the town invited as well as local dignitaries. Amanda Wheeler is also particularly focusing on MindSpace, George’s Food Hub and 2nd Stamford Scouts.
‘So I've got three charities this year. The first one is MindSpace. I very much care about people and I'm believer in the fact that we all have needs and we all sometimes need to turn to other people for support, and the work that Mindspace do in our community is just fantastic and they provide a service for anyone and everyone and I absolutely want to support them as much as I can. So as well as fundraising for them, I'm also really happy to you know, provide practical support where I can. George's Food Hub, just a great initiative and George is a wonderful individual who's done so much for the community. But also for me I'm all about avoiding waste and being sustainable and so supporting him and the project that he does is absolutely a no brainer. And then the final one Is the Scouts, and I know that they do a lot of work. I care a lot about young people. I set up the Youth Council when I joined the Town Council and so I wanted to do something that would support young people. And so when the Scouts approached me, I thought, yeah, absolutely they are fundraising and I really want to support them’.
