There was an air of defiance, determination and solidarity as members of our local Ukrainian community gathered to mark three years since Russia's invasion of their country began.
An open air service was held in the evening sunshine outside Brown's Hospital on Broad Street with prayers, music and wreath laying by the Ukrainian community of Stamford and the district and county councils. A march then followed around the town. It was led by Romana, who says:
"We hope we will have a victory in this war. We as Ukrainians who had to leave our country, and now who live abroad, we're doing our best to show the world and to show Ukraine we do not forget our Ukrainian people as well, and we don't forget our duties as Ukrainians."
Tonight, the Ukrainian Rotary Club of Rutland is holding an event at the Rutland County Museum from 6pm, where a film by Stamford Ukrainian documentary maker Natalia Yakovleva called Fort Kharkiv will be shown.
