A repeat of 2023 is happening on the Manton Bay Osprey nest as the first two birds to arrive back are now believed to have mated before Maya returns.
25(10), a female who has a nest elsewhere in the county, has spent much of the weekend in view of the webcam, and has even scented the nest, something the birds rarely do. She's now got together with Maya's mate, 33(11), as Maya is still to arrive back. It looks like the two birds mated at first light this morning. Last time this happened, when Maya returned, she moved on 33's mistress. It's hoped the change of wind direction will see more ospreys return to the canteen through this week.

MAYA IS BACK!
For a short time there were three on the Manton Bay nest, but the famous female has now reclaimed the nest with 33(11) as fellow female 25 (10) waits for her mate. Thanks to the Rutland Osprey Project webcam as always for the images.
