Rutland and Stamford's MP is joining others across Leicestershire to present a petition of over 8,000 signatures from her constituents against local government reorganisation to Downing Street and her petition to the House of Commons.
Several other Leicestershire MPs have also been collecting signatures.
Alicia Kearns says, despite the government pausing their plans during her campaign, she sees it as an opportunity to show the strength of feeling for and mostly against, according to her replies. And she wants the plans off the table.
"So look, a lot of people are celebrating, but the fight isn't over yet. So for the moment, it's off the table for the moment.
We remain as Rutland and we have elections next year for Rutland County Council and for South Kesteven District Council. But beyond that, now is the time for me to ram home with the government what we actually want."
"And you've been collecting signatures for your petition. Now, if anyone has been on there and it was, you know, very explicitly detailed that you can actually go, yes, I absolutely support local government reorganisation, or, no, I don't."
"And that was what it was. Absolutely. So I want to know the people who do support it, and I can tell you now it is a handful. And I also want to know the thousands and thousands who do not support it. So I'll be joining fellow Leicestershire MPs, and we'll be going and knocking on the door of Downing Street, and we'll be handing the petition from across our communities.
We haven't totaled all up, and there's gonna be tens of thousands, I suspect, by the time we've put all our petitions together. And then I'll be presenting in Parliament just a petition for Rutland, Stamford and the Harborough villages."
