Rutland Police are working with trading standards to crack down on the sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the area.
Officers stopped a vehicle at a shop in Uppingham this week and gave chase after the driver abruptly left. An estimated £3,000 worth of illegal cigarettes and tobacco was found in the boot, along with three mobile phones and over £600 in cash. Police believe the driver was on his way to another shop in Rutland to drop off part of his consignment. He was arrested and the investigation was passed to Trading Standards.
