Andrew Osborne from Rutland has completed his 3000 mile solo row across the Atlantic and raised thousands of pounds for a charity that helps undiagnosed heart conditions in young people, in memory of his daughter Amy.
A Rutland Dad has made it to the shore of his 3000 mile atlantic ocean crossing and raised over £140,000 in memory of his daughter. Andrew Osborne had been at sea since the 8th of January when he left Gran Canaria, and he’s rowed solo in a boat called In Full Cry, in support of a charity Cardiac Risk In The Young after Amy died aged 25 from an undiagnosed heart condition. At points in the crossing he was so far from land, the nearest thing to him was the International Space Station. He was welcomed back to dry land by friends and family, and let off a flare in celebration of a feat undertaken famously by James Cracknell and Ben Fogle in 2006. The money raised for the charity will help screen hundreds of children and young adults for heart conditions, as well as help research and awareness.
