Rutland County Council has released more details about its decision to close Catmose Sports Centre to the public.
They say closing the centre cost £120,000. To keep it open for another 10 years would have required just under £1,000,000 in subsidy as they couldn't find a commercial operator that would run it without financial help from the council, A lease on the building was terminated on the 17th of July and is now the property of Catmose College. Sport England also have agreed that a £500,000 grant they gave when the centre was built back in 2008 won't have to be repaid. The leader says councillors took the right decision to protect public money and that the private sector is stepping up to fill the void.
