Rutland Day

As part of the Rutland Day celebrations yesterday, there was an event at Oakham Castle which saw reenactors from the Ferrars' household along with local stalls, a Maker's market, a history tour and the Special Multum Gin Parvo Rutland Cocktail and Rutland Pippin were also on offer.

It's held on the second Saturday in September because of the 58th Rutlandshire Regiment of Foot, who were in an infantry army division in Gibraltar, who were in the great siege against French and Spanish forces lasting three years and seven months, the longest ever endured by the British Army.
