Rutland Community Fridge Project is branching out from this evening with the first of four feasts.
They are aiming to organise one a quarter, partly using food from the project but also seasonal produce from gardens and also spreading the initiative around the county. Tonight's feast is at the Oakham Congregational Church Hall, but tickets need to be bought in advance. Organiser, Claire Crowley, says it brings the number of projects together.
‘We're trying to look at other ways to use surplus food and to also to bring people together to eat together because everybody knows that sitting around a table chatting is a good thing to do. So yeah, we decided on four seasonal feasts for this year, so some of the food will be from the community garden that we run called Grower's Row, and some of it is going to be from other people's gardens’.
