A seven week consultation is now under way as the Government asks for opinions on proposals put forward by our councils to merge
and in some areas divide authorities in local government reorganisation. In Rutland this means choosing between the North City South proposal favoured by Rutland County Council's Executive, which would see Rutland, Melton and Charnwood join together, as well as the council covering the whole of Leicestershire and Rutland without the city and whether Leicester should enlarge its boundary or not The North City South proposal which would create 3 councils for Leicestershire and Rutland says it would save over £44 million a year, which is nearly half of Rutland's annual budget and deliver it says more focused services. Lincolnshire County Council put forward their Your Lincolnshire proposal that would see one unity authority to replace the current County Council and seven district councils including South Kesteven. They believe it's the best and most simple option for reorganising councils in the area to deliver the best efficiency savings and cause the least disruption to key services. Consultations open till the 26th of March and it's on the government website with copies also available in libraries.
