A long running shop window competition is returning to Stamford next month, aiming to build stronger links with the town's shops during the Defender Burghley Horse Trials.
Entries for the five star event itself will also open this week and businesses across the town from Independence to hotels are being invited to decorate with a horse heritage or country style by the 10th of August, with judging on Monday the 18th. David Pennell, CEO of Burghley, says the idea comes from a time when the main route to the Horse Trials was through the town and people used to visit the shops in the queues.
‘We want to avoid the traffic problems but we want to encourage those over 170,000 visitors to visit the Defender Burghley Horse Trials, so if we can get some of those into town shopping and you know sharing out into those traders then that is all good news’.
