A hundred guests witnessed Stamford's mayor officially receive office last night in the annual mayor making at the Town Hall.
The ceremony featured Stanford's historic regalia, including the Civic Mace and 15th-century Wand of Office. Chains were formally presented to Councillor Jane Kingman and her consort, Philip Archer, along with Deputy Mayor Councillor Ed Fancourt and his consort, Claire Pearcy.
Stamford's Poet Laureate Michelle Liebst performed a specially written poem, and the mayor's outgoing and incoming cadets were also recognised. Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Gary Waterfall, was also present. Councillor Jane Kingman says it was an honour to receive the mayoral chains in front of so many supporters.
"Yeah, a lot of them are my friends, and we were only allowed a hundred, and I think we had 99 because of insurance. But yeah, a lot of my friends that I made when I first moved to Stamford in 1976, still friends with them, and they're still here now. Families come up from Kent, have some friends come from London.
So yes, we've got quite a variety of people here tonight."
