Villagers in Stretton marked the 2nd anniversary of their community hub yesterday by raising £1,400 for Macmillan in a coffee morning attended by the Lord Lieutenant, Vice Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff.
The new wooden village sign designed by Linda Heath featuring St. Nicholas Church was also unveiled by Dr. Sarah Furness between the village pump and phone box. Sue Armstrong-Brookes, from the hub, says broadening the use of their Grade 2 star listed church has had great support from locals.
'Since the association, the hub came into being and with some really fantastic things on for the community. And it just shows how many people turned up today of how well it's received and the support and the fact that people are willing to give up their own time. The association committee are all volunteers and we really do enjoy putting functions on like this. Although it's a lot of hard work, it gives us a lot back’.
