Bourne's mental health charity is opening its community garden shed this morning to support parents
as students collect their exam results. Don't Lose Hope is encouraging parents to think about taking a step back and maybe meeting their children in the park after they've picked up their results on their own, rather than accompanying them. The Shed at the Wellhead for parents who'd like a cuppa and chat and maybe a walk as GCSE results are given out at schools and colleges across the Rutland and Stamford Sound area. Former teacher Dom Brister, who's also parents of a GCSE student today who runs the community shed, says it's all about having that conversation with your child and doing what's right for them.
‘100%.And it gives them a chance to link with their friends and actually through a lot of the struggles that they will go through in life the first person they will go to, even as, you know, 15 years an ex teacher you would say to the kids, who would you go and talk to? The first person they're going to talk to when they need something is their friends. And actually if they can go in with their friends and talk to their friends they will probably got that extra two or three minutes to calm down a bit or be excited and then they'll come and share it with you’.
