Tributes are being paid to a former leader and chairman of Rutland County Council who's died.
Edward Baines first spoke up in support of Rutland in a public meeting when he was still at Oakham School aged 16, as the campaign began in the early 60s to stop Rutland being merged with Leicestershire, and continued to represent the county throughout his life. Flags are being flown at half mast and a minutes silence will be held before council meetings in tribute to him. Edward Baines was made an Honorary Alderman in September 2023 to recognise his contribution to Rutland.
