Today is the start of two days of fundraising and fun in Uffington as the Scarecrow Festival highlights heroes and heroines.
Today there's also a dog show and many stalls and attractions are open across today and tomorrow. If you head along today, you've also a chance to vote on your favourite scarecrow with the prizes presented at the Bertie Arms at 5:00pm. Vanessa Kimberley from the committee says the event raises much needed funds across the village.
‘The church will put its proceeds towards a new heating system. The current one is unreliable. It's 40 years old and you can't get the spare parts for heating. The village hall is going to buy a big screen and a PA system so we can show films together and the National Theatre live production. Obviously the roof. £2,000 for the thatch roof insurance. It goes up. The school is doing a pin trail with their money and the cricket club is improving its social area and buying another BBQ’.
