Around 650 athletes began a swim at first light and are taking part in three laps of Rutland Water's roads this morning by bike before they run a half marathon in the annual Vitruvian Triathlon.
The cycle circuit uses the A606 from Whitwell, the A6003 to Manton, and then Lyndon Road and Normanton Park Road. No road closures are planned. Motorists are asked to be mindful of groups of riders and to allow them room.
Race director from Pacesetter Events, Paul Cowling, says it also has a military competition within it.
"It's the Interservices Championship, so it's pretty well represented. So they'll have their own little championship within the event. The bikes will be going around the lake from Whitwell to Oakham, up to Manton and back on the South Shore, Empingham, and then back round again. So they'll do three laps. So they'll be done by lunchtime, very comfortably by lunchtime."
