A busy afternoon of local sport, headlined by a fantastic achievement for Oakham United Under 17s Youth Football team.
In the final of the Leicestershire Youth League Under 17 League Cup, Oakham United claimed the honours with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Heather Juniors Pumas at Harborough Town Football Club. The win caps off a superb season for Oakham, who have already been crowned Leicestershire Youth League Division One champions.
Cricket
Plenty of cricket at the weekend with wickets tumbling and an abundance of runs including a few local centurions!
Leicestershire and Rutland league
Oakham 1st lost to Egerton Park 1st by 31 runs in the Premier division. Egerton scored an impressive 279 but despite an impressive knock by Harry Tyler Oakham fell short in the run chase.
In Premier 3 North, Oakham 2nd won at Bardon Hill by 82 runs.
And Oakham 3rds got the better of Barkby United 3rds winning by 41 runs in Championship 4 Central. Oakham’s opening bowler Clifton bagged 6 wickets
Uppingham 1sts thrashed Ibstock Town 1sts by 106 runs in Premier 2. The home side scored a massive 307 for 8 with Town’s number 3 Brough scoring 118.
The 2nd team won at Langton 2nds by 8 wickets in the Championship 2 Central
And in Championship 4 central, Uppingham 3rds lost away at Leicester Eagles 1sts by 3 wickets
Market Overton 1st lost to GNG 1st in Championship 2 Central by 8 wickets.
Market Overton 2nds were beaten by 6 wickets against Rothley Park 4ths in Championship 4 Central
Wakerley and Barrowden lost by 2 wickets to Electricity Sports 4th in their Championship 4 central despite a huge knock of 142 not out by Ali Hall which included 21 boundaries.
Lincolnshire Premier Cricket League
Woodhall Spa 1sts got the better of Burghley Park 1st winning by 6 wickets in the Premier division````
And the 2nd team were narrowly beaten by Market Deeping 2nds in Division 1 south by 4 runs
Ketton Sports 1st went to the seaside and came away with an impressive 5 run win against Skegness 1sts in Championship South.
The Ketton 2nd team were also on the road in Division 2 south and beat Spalding 2nds by 30 wins thanks to a brilliant century from Ketton’s opening batsman Will Stevenson.
It was a great afternoon for Uffington 1sts who won at Grantham 3rds in division 3 south by a whopping 173 runs thanks to a century from opening batsman Dalley.
Rutland Cricket League
Both Burghley Park 1sts and Oakham 1sts faced difficult away fixtures against their respective league leaders.
Burghley Park travelled to Newborough in Division One and were beaten by 124 runs, while Oakham went down by five wickets to United Sports in Division Two.
Stamford Town 1sts enjoyed a much better afternoon in Division Three, defeating Addida 1sts by 112 runs. Tim Juggins starred with a superb 128, while Brett Bennett returned impressive figures of 5 for 22.
Grantham and Melton Cricket Association Division Two
There was a major upset for Burghley Park 2nds. Starting the day second on the ladder, they were beaten by bottom-placed Market Overton 1sts, who secured a 71-run victory. Stamford Town 2nds also suffered defeat, losing to Frisby, Hoby and Rotherby 1sts by 17 runs.
Rugby
Saints came from behind to win a very close game 36 – 32 at home to Gloucester.
There was a surprise result in the Gallagher Premiership as third-placed Leicester Tigers were beaten at home by fourth-placed Exeter Chiefs, 35 points to 26.
