On the day of the last Osprey Cruise of the season at Rutland Water experts at the Lyndon Visitor Centre say time is running out to see this year's most famous chick in person.
1R0 is 100 days old tomorrow George Smith from the Lyndon Visitor Centre says being the only chick on the Manton Bay nest this year has stood him in good stead for the future.
‘I mean it could be any day now really. That said his concentrated offering, he is quite large. He's got quite a lot of good fat stores, so I wouldn't be surprised if we have less than a week of him left before it leaves on migration. To be honest, a day like today, could be a good one for him to leave on. There's not too much wind, plenty of heat for him to take up on thermals and there's not really any clouds in the sky. I don't think it's going to rain, so that it would be a nice time for him to head off and it's in keeping with when he should be really. He's in very, very good nick and I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years time he comes back and given that he's a male, he hopefully breed in local area, that would be really nice’.
