An acclaimed play which inspired The Smiths' hit "Sheila Take A Bow" kicks off at Stamford Art Centre tonight.
A Taste of Honey was written by Shelagh Delaney when she was just 19. It was a huge success in London and New York, and was turned into a BAFTA award-winning film in the early sixties. It's being performed by Stamford Shoestring Theatre Company from tonight until Saturday. The cast are looking forward to some good houses this week.
"It's the heart of the Industrial Revolution really, and post-war is a struggle like most inner cities, and this story is a little bit about that. Each night is different because of how the audience is different, so the audience really plays a part in how that evening's performance goes, so definitely, yeah."
"I think we're selling well with this play. So now, the play is on the syllabus, we might even get some school parties in, let's hope so."
"I think it's a really funny show. I think it's funnier than you might expect it to be. And I think each one of us has a really deep love for our character, and an admiration for them in some ways. And I think they're a really interesting group of people. And when you put them all together in a room, some really funny and interesting things happen, and you should come and see it for that reason, the combination of these people."
