All Saints Church in Oakham is preparing for a festival weekend in celebration of a little-known queen with local links.
Queen Edith was the wife of Edward the Confessor, and it's believed to be the 1000th anniversary of her birth. There's a school visit on Friday, a public exhibition, a book launch and re-enactment on Saturday, and also a chance to meet the queen herself, and a church service on Sunday. Vicar of Oakham, Reverend Stephen Griffiths, says this weekend really is the start of the journey for them.
"We think it's about a thousand years since Queen Edith was born and that seems a fitting time to explore her life and story. Her story is largely unknown as far as we can tell, although people have written about her and we want to share that story because she's got a local link, she is the Edith of Edith Weston in Rutland."
