Rutland County Council's moving ahead with the redevelopment of the County Museum to include a new cultural centre with architects releasing a design of how the building might look.
The project, funded by £6 million of council funds and £1.5 million from the government, is hoped to safeguard the building's long-term future with a refurbished, extended and modernised facility and building works expected to take place next year. A new entrance, cafe, shop, and flexible community space are all planned, along with a new Jurassic Gallery, a Stone Age to Mediaeval gallery with dedicated Roman exhibition, and immersive digital experiences that interpret the Rutland Sea Dragon and Ketton Roman Mosaic. There'll also be a new multi-use arts and theatre space for community use, an education room for school visits, enhanced displays and exhibitions throughout the museum, and a new and improved home for Rutland's local history collection in
the adjoining Catmos Cottage building. Some of the larger museum exhibits will be housed in a new space at Oakham Enterprise Park.
