In Oakham, Rutland County Council and Burmor Construction have issued a joint statement about the building of 40 homes on the Brooke Road allotments to explain why the crossing is permanently closed for three months for drivers and pedestrians.
Both say they've received a number of queries from members of the public asking why pedestrians can't cross when no trains are passing. They say in the interests of safety of workers and locals, and to avoid the risk of confusion, closing the crossing for drivers and pedestrians until work is complete is the best course of action.
