A packed Party in the Park in Cutts Close in Oakham followed a parade and service where many parts of Rutland were highlighted through flags and banners naming their village or town yesterday.
Among the attractions was a corps of drums from the cadets across the region. County Music Officer Melissa Bale says, the public performances and parades are a big part of what they do.
"The sense of it being Armed Forces weekend, the cadets take it really seriously. They get a lot out of it, and they enjoy performing for the public. It's why they do music."
"And whereabouts are they all drawn from?"
"We have cadets here that are from E Company, which is Rutland and part of Northampton. And then we have Northamptonshire, which is A Company and one From F Squadron, which is over Loughborough way."
"So very much this region and and grown from here?"
"Yes, definitely. These cadets also do what we call green cadets. So they do the military side as well, and then they do music as a second option within their training."
