An extraordinary meeting of the South Kesteven District Council will be held later today to discuss the future of Deepings Leisure Centre, following its closure in July.
The future of Deepings’ Leisure Centre, which was closed in July for safety reasons after heavy rain, is being discussed this afternoon in an extraordinary meeting of South Kesteven District Council Cabinet.
A petition of well over 6500 signatures is calling for urgent repairs to the building to be carried out as soon as possible and firm plans for a new facility to be built by 2025.
Independent councillor for Market and West Deeping, Ashley Baxter, uses the facility along with his family. He says that a leisure centre on the doorstep is vital for the community:
“My daughter is a swimmer with the Deepings Swimming Club, along with hundreds of other young people and they now have nowhere to swim” says Ashley “It presents a massive problem for families all over.”
We're holding a drop-in session for local people who are interested in learning more about volunteering opportunities with the community radio station serving Rutland, Stamford and the surrounding area. The drop-in event is being held in the theatre lounge at Stamford Corn Exchange from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday 24 April.
The two campaign groups against the proposed development on the north side of Stamford are joining forces for what they say is one final push for people to comment. Neither Stamford North nor Quarry Farm have been approved for planning yet. The South Kesteven District Local Plan is also out for consultation following some revisions.
