Rutland’s council tax could freeze for the next two financial years leading up to planned local government reorganisation.
It is believed increases have been imposed for the past 10 years due to rising costs. Leader Gale Waller told Rutland and Stamford Sound It's partly running a tight ship but also that wherever Rutland may partner with in the future will have lower charges.
‘Yes, we definitely are. In fact we're looking at a potential freeze for two years then leading up to local government reorganisation. Part of it is as a result of good financial management, but part of it is also an awareness that wherever we go we will have the highest council tax and there are seven years to equalise council tax. Where we would rather that Rutland residents are started on that route, than have to wait the seven years before they see the benefit. In other words, get their benefits sooner rather than later’.
