Pantomime comes to Oakham later as the Rutland Arts Theatre Society marks its 50th year
with the production of Jack and the Beanstalk. It is taking place at the Rutland County Museum tonight, with a matinee and evening performance tomorrow. It's adapted and brought up to date by a script from Cottesmore Village players originally and RATS director and writer Ellie Dickinson says panto is a rare chance to have performers and audience of all ages come together to celebrate live theatre.
‘We have added a couple of other different scenes in, added some more topical gags because otherwise it's the work. But yeah, so for me, I wanted to do the panto to get a mixture of ages together performing on stage because it's quite hard to do with some play scripts that not always very obviously geared for older and young people at the same time. Just really wanted to give them a chance to have a larger role but also to encourage families to come to the theatre and come and watch and have a bit of a giggle in the middle of cold January’.
