Leader of Rutland County Council continues to work on local government reorganisation

The leader of Rutland County Council is continuing to work with Leicestershire on local government reorganisation

and says they're also having discussions over the Lincolnshire proposal that features Rutland partnering with South Kesteven. Councillor Gale Waller does say the government invited the county to work with Leicestershire and that an alliance with Melton and Charnwood is still likely. Also that residents can have their say online at a dedicated website northcitysouth.co.uk for the Leicestershire proposals. However, they are waiting to see how South Kesteven, North Kesteven and South Holland councils together may engage with residents in Rutland. MP for Rutland and Stamford Alicia Kearns says both options should be fully explored for residents.

‘I'm afraid I'm just astounded that Rutland County Council's leadership is still railroading Rutlanders into just one option and that is re-joining Leicestershire. Look, the survey, the SurveyMonkey, they published what they're calling public consultation it doesn't even ask Rutlanders if we'd rather be with Leicestershire or with Lincolnshire. And it goes so far in their statements to say that it's South Kesteven to consult Rutlanders on whether we'd rather be with Lincolnshire, not them. I just don't understand how the council can maintain a position where they don't think that Rutlanders should have any real choice or any say. The demographic deficit really is galling’.
