Dog owners are being warned not to let their pets enter fields of livestock after a dog got into the sheep enclosure at the Ketton Quarry Nature Reserve over the weekend and attacked one of the flock.
The dog on Sunday morning apparently chased the sheep around for 20 minutes in the hot weather, leaving them distressed, and the ewe that was injured is being watched closely to make sure she doesn't develop an infection. Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust who operate the nature reserve at Ketton is calling on local dog owners to act responsibly and keep their pets on a lead and also keep an eye on them. The sheep are there to keep the grass under control against the limestone and the Trust says the livestock help the wildflowers and invertebrates to thrive there.
