A Stamford district councillor is appealing to his planning committee to stick to their guns over a plot of land which is intended for some light industry.
Richard Cleaver, who serves the West side of Stamford known as St. Johns Ward, says a speculative application for houses only goes against the local plan and that the published four year housing supply in the district is under reporting, as it doesn't take into account Stamford North. Councillor Cleaver says despite the government's increased housing targets, he's urging the planning committee to do the right thing for the town.
‘We are already planning to change the allocation of that site from all employment use to be mixed, to be 101 houses plus 5 hectares and employment use, which to me seems a fair compromise and one that I'm happy with. So therefore it seems wrong having made that decision that we're going to go to consultation on that basis. I think that should be allowed to go through another consultation and people shouldn't be allowed to jump the gun and get permission to build the whole 268 houses on it before we done the decision on the local plan’.
