A new community event celebrating the start of summer is taking place this morning at Oakham Castle.
Oakham May Fayre Dance is the sister event of the Magical Lantern Walk in November and is supported by Rutland Morris, Rutland County Council and Oakham Town Council. There's a chance to try Morris dancing, Maypole dancing and make flower crowns and bell bracelets. The event runs between 10:30am and 12:30pm at the castle and organiser Clare Caro from Root and Branch Out says local involvement is key.
‘The whole underpinning thing is to bring the community together. It's something that's free, it's for families, it's actually giving things a go. They'll be a couple of crafts there as well. We've got bells and things to like this double S stick and ribbon to so that you can have your own jingly bits as well as flower crowns, so it will be a really nice celebration for spring and the beginning of summer’.
