Rutland has partnered with around 100 other local authorities across the country to fund a short film about fostering.
For the 7th year running the county is joining with others in the hope that the video will encourage more potential foster carers to come forward. A shortage in Rutland means some children are placed out of county. The Everything Fostering film tells the story of a foster carer on his 60th birthday, looking back at the lives he's helped. Fostering Team manager at Rutland County Council Julie Hall says more foster carers would lead to better placements for more children.
’We really need foster carers. We are in the position where children are being placed out of county and we have children who are in residential care we would really like to bring back into foster care placements. It isn't only an issue in Rutland. It's an issue nationally, foster carer numbers have really reduced over recent years. I think there's lots of reasons for that. The financial crisis, ageing population in foster care.’
