Network Rail have stepped up their investigation into the Helpston Crossing incidents,
where a second train appeared to come through with the barriers up on a weekday morning last month. Earlier findings suggest it was human error where an attendant incorrectly used an override function. The signaller involved has been removed from safety critical duties during the investigation. Others have received additional training.A second incident on the 1st of November where the barriers were stuck in the down position was said to be unrelated and was a technical fault. Northwest Cambridgeshire MP Sam Carling is seeking reassurance there are not wider problems in the system and is working with the parish council to ensure locals are kept informed and that the investigation leads to meaningful improvements.
